A sacred journey to the holy alpine lake of Gosaikunda (4,380 m) β revered by Hindus and Buddhists alike β through dense rhododendron forests and dramatic Langtang ridgelines.
Gosaikunda is a chain of sacred glacial lakes at 4,380 m in the Langtang National Park, considered one of the holiest pilgrimage sites in Nepal. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva created the lakes by striking the ground with his trident to quench his thirst. During the full moon of August (Janai Purnima), thousands of pilgrims make the journey β a powerful cultural spectacle.
The trek begins from Dhunche, the gateway to Langtang, climbing through dense rhododendron and oak forests before emerging above the treeline into dramatic alpine terrain. The crossing of Lauribina Pass (4,609 m) on the descent offers sweeping views of the Langtang and Ganesh Himal ranges before the trail drops to the Helambu valley.
Travel through the Trishuli gorge to Dhunche, the gateway to Langtang National Park. Approx. 5β6 hours by vehicle.
Climb through oak and rhododendron forest, gaining height to Sing Gompa, well known for its local cheese factory.
Cross above the treeline through juniper scrub to Lauribina Yak, where the views open onto the Langtang range and Ganesh Himal.
Walk along the high ridge to the sacred Gosaikunda Lake. In the afternoon, explore the surrounding lakes such as Saraswati Kunda and Bhairav Kunda.
Cross the Lauribina Pass and descend toward the Helambu region, taking in views of the Langtang range and Ganesh Himal. Overnight in Ghopte.
A gentle descent through rhododendron and pine forest to the quiet mountain village of Timang, with classic Helambu hill scenery along the way.
Descend to the Melamchi valley, then drive back to Kathmandu.
