Follow the footsteps of legends to the foot of the world's highest mountain β a journey through Sherpa heartland, ancient monasteries, and breathtaking high-altitude terrain.
The Everest Base Camp (EBC) trek is the most popular trekking route in Nepal. It begins with a thrilling mountain flight to Lukla, then winds through rhododendron forests, prayer-flag-draped suspension bridges, and lively Sherpa market towns to reach Everest Base Camp at 5,364 m, deep in the Khumbu valley.
Acclimatisation days at Namche Bazaar and Dingboche leave plenty of time to experience Sherpa culture and mountain faith. Visit ancient monasteries and meet local families along the way, and enjoy the special scenery that only those who climb this high ever see.
The highlight of the trek, Kala Patthar (5,545 m), opens up a magnificent panorama of Himalayan giants β Everest itself alongside Lhotse, Nuptse, and Pumori.
An early morning scenic flight from Kathmandu lands at the legendary Lukla airstrip (2,840 m). After a brief gear check and guide introduction, the trail descends through pine and rhododendron forest along the Dudh Koshi river to the riverside village of Phakding. A gentle first day to ease into the rhythm of the Khumbu.
The trail follows the Dudh Koshi upstream, crossing the famous Hillary Suspension Bridge before a long and steep climb to Namche Bazaar β the vibrant, bustling capital of the Sherpa world. On a clear day, Everest appears for the first time above the LhotseβNuptse wall as you approach.
A full rest and acclimatisation day in Namche β essential at 3,440 m. Hike up to the Everest View Hotel (3,880 m) for a breathtaking panorama of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku. Explore the Sherpa Culture Museum, the colourful Saturday market, and the ancient Namche Gompa. Rest well tonight.
A superb ridge walk with close-up views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and the perfect pyramid of Ama Dablam. Descend to Phunki Tenga then climb through rhododendron forest to Tengboche, home to the largest monastery in the Khumbu. Attend the late afternoon puja ceremony if timing allows.
Descend through birch and juniper forest to the Imja Khola valley, passing through the ancient village of Pangboche with its famous hand of the yeti. The trail climbs to the wide-open pastures of Dingboche β the last large settlement before high altitude truly begins.
A critical acclimatisation day before pushing higher. Hike to Nagarjun Hill (5,100 m) for a sweeping 360Β° panorama β Makalu, Baruntse, Island Peak, Lhotse, and Thamserku all visible. Return to Dingboche for a hearty meal and an early night. Your body is quietly adapting to the thin air.
A shorter but significant day as the landscape shifts to raw alpine terrain. Pass the emotional memorials at Thukla Pass β cairns and plaques honouring climbers who died on Everest β before reaching Lobuche on the edge of the Khumbu Glacier moraine. The air is noticeably thinner tonight.
Drop your bags at the teahouses of Gorak Shep β the last outpost of civilisation β then continue across the rocky lateral moraine of the Khumbu Glacier to Everest Base Camp at 5,364 m. Stand on the glacier beneath the Khumbu Icefall, surrounded by the roar of the mountain. Return to Gorak Shep for the night.
Rise at 4:00 am for the steep climb to Kala Patthar β the most celebrated Everest viewpoint on earth. Watch the sunrise ignite the summit of Everest (8,849 m) in deep gold above you. After soaking in the moment, descend all the way to Pheriche β a long day rewarded by the satisfaction of having stood at the roof of the trek.
A long descent through Tengboche and the lower Khumbu valley back to Namche. The body feels the altitude relief with every hundred metres of descent. Celebrate the final evening in the mountains over a well-earned meal in Namche.
The last day on the trail β retrace the Dudh Koshi valley back to Lukla, crossing the Hillary Bridge one final time. A celebratory dinner in Lukla with your guide and porter. Pack for tomorrow's flight and reflect on everything the mountains gave you.
Morning flight back to Kathmandu (weather permitting β mountain flights are subject to conditions). Arrive in Kathmandu by mid-morning with the afternoon free for rest, shopping at Thamel, or a final celebration dinner.
β» Depending on the season, Lukla flights may operate from Ramechhap (about 5 hours by road from Kathmandu) rather than Kathmandu. In that case an overnight stay in Ramechhap is required for the early-morning flight, adding one day to the itinerary. Please contact us for details.
